Covid-19 Update -02/06/2020

A letter to our patients, 
We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health.
You may have heard that dental practices will be able to start to re-open from Monday 8 June.   Our practice at Broad Walk is a designated Urgent Care Centre (UCC), and as part of the Derbyshire NHS Urgent Dental Care network, has been providing emergency care to patients in Derbyshire who have specific emergency needs, referred to us by the Derbyshire NHS team. 
Going forward, we have been asked by the Derbyshire NHS team to continue to be a UCC for the duration of June 2020, treating emergency patients who continue to be referred by the Derbyshire NHS team.   After June, we will be working with the Derbyshire NHS team to begin to return to providing a more normal dental service.  However, it will take some time before services return to what you previously experienced as normal. We would ask you to please be patient during this transitional period. 
Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.
Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and our infection control procedures are made so that when you receive care, it is both safe and comfortable.  We are up-to-date on new guidance that has been issued following the Covid 19 crisis and we have already been working to the new standards and procedures that are now required.  We are experienced in using the new Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and have redesigned our procedures and protocols to maintain social distancing and to meet the new guidance issued for the delivery of dental services. 
At this time, please do not contact us to arrange for a routine dental check-up or appointment, as for some time we will be dealing with a backlog of patients who require urgent treatment.  Patients part way through a course of treatment will be contacted in due course to arrange for completion of this treatment.
When we are able to resume routine dental check-ups and appointments, we will contact you directly to arrange your next visit. 
When you next come to the practice, you may see some changes that we have made to help protect our patients and staff including:
  • Our practice will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions. You will be asked those same questions again at your appointment and we may also need to take your temperature before you are able to enter the practice and attend your appointment.
  • We have hand sanitiser that we will ask you to use when you enter the practice. You may also be asked to wear gloves that we will provide when you enter the practice.
  • We will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so on as those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.
  • Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients and this may mean that you are offered fewer options for scheduling your
We will also do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.
How you can help:
  • With the exception of children and patients with carers, patients should come

  • Payment should be made by card where possible.
  • Staff will not shake your
  • If you show symptoms following booking your appointment, please contact the practice by telephone to let us know.
  • Please do not arrive too early to the practice, you may need to wait outside to enable us to observe social distancing requirements.
  • Please do not arrive unless you have a confirmed appointment.
  • Patients should come wearing a mask if possible and will need to be prepared to wear one if requested to do so by the practice staff.
We appreciate that these are challenging times and that our community has been through a lot over the last few months.  We are working hard to resume our services to the community with a focus on patient and staff safety, and we are grateful for your continued patience and co-operation.

Covid-19 Update - 12/05/2020

Following the Prime Minsters address on Sunday, we would like to advise patients that nothing has changed here at the practice.
- We are still CLOSED for all routine appointments. 
- We are continuing to review all guidance form the Chief Dental Officer, NHS, GDC, CQC.
- We will continue to offer a triage service and advice  over the telephone -  01298 214601, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) 9am until 5pm, the dental team are happy to help. If you are in need of urgent dental advice out of hours, including weekends and bank holidays please use or call 111.
- We still have a zero tolerance policy on all abuse towards our staff, including over the telephone.
- We have set up a service with a local pharmacy to allow you to collect prescriptions directly from them if a prescription is deemed clinically necessary.  
- There is now a referral pathway in place that for urgent dental cases that cannot be treated with simple measures. This means that some extreme cases are being seen at Urgent Care Centre's for emergency dental care, mainly extractions. Do not worry if you have Covid-19 symptoms as arrangements can be made for you to be seen if required at an urgent care centre.

Due to the practice currently being closed for all routine appointment's we are unable to provide our usual same day emergency appointments. 

We are now able to provide a triage service and advice over the telephone. Call 01298 214601 Mon-Fri 9am-5pm

We are able to provide anti-biotics where clinically indicated. 

There is also a referral pathway available for urgent dental cases that cannot be treated with simple measures.
